THE OUTREACH PROJECT - SHOE HANDOVER We decided to assist this school situated in Phillipi due to their socio economic circumstances. Children at this farm school were attending school in broken shoes, slippers, barefoot or either in shoes that were too small. Toward the end of 2013 we started with a shoe drive, whereby teachers donated R150-00 for the purchase of school shoes and donation letters were sent to businesses. Pep Stores donated R5000-00 in vouchers and 105 pairs of school shoes was purchased. The shoes were delivered during February 2014. We then realized that these children did not have any socks to wear with the shoes. We appealed to our learners to donate socks towards this project. A fundraiser held on Valentines Day raised an amount of R6000-00. Socks were then purchased (540 pairs plus donations received) and each learner at this school received 2 pairs of grey school socks. |
